Herbs and plants in spring

Region

What can you find in the Harz Mountains in spring? The Harz Forest is a paradise for nature lovers who want to enjoy the variety of flowers and plants in spring.

Wild garlic (Allium ursinum)
The Harz Forest is known for its wild garlic stands.
In spring, wild garlic covers large areas and exudes its characteristic, garlicky scent.
The white
flowers appear from around April to May.

Lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis)
Lily of the valley is another typical spring bloomer
in the Harz Forest. Their white, fragrant flowers appear
usually from May. Please note: lilies of the valley are poisonous, but
beautiful to look at.

Anemones (Anemone nemorosa)
The wood anemones or anemones bloom in light
forests and beautify the spring. Their white flowers
are particularly striking and appear in the months
March to May.

Violets (Viola)
In spring you can also find a variety of violet species,
which adorn the forest floor
with their purple and blue flowers. They are delicate and slightly fragrant.

Larches(Larix decidua)
Even though larches are not typical spring flowers,
they can be found in the Harz Forest. Their light green, soft
needles and delicate yellow flowers in spring make
them a beautiful sight.

Cowslip (Primula veris)
These yellow heralds of spring are widespread and bloom
in forests, meadows and grassy areas. Their bright
flowers bring color to the still grey spring days.
